The build, day by day·
A night in the field
A whole night of field tests on a real phone in a real house with real bad Wi-Fi. Eight takes on a locked phone: none lost. Some arrived slowly, and the slowness taught us the lesson of the night — iPhones only allow background sending when they feel like it, and the feeling has rules.
So we planned around the rules instead of fighting them: hand every take to the phone’s own courier the moment it exists, and also try to send it ourselves in the seconds after you press stop, while the app is still allowed to work. Whichever wins, wins.
The same evening, the next stage got decided and written up: the app should understand what each note is for, build a knowledge base from what it hears, ask one polite question at a time, and one day turn a sentence into a quote. Five issues, filed and numbered.
